After all these years of going to watch baseball games with my dad and now taking my children, I didn’t realize my white ass was a racist. I thought pro sports (MLB, NBA, NFL, PGA, NHL, etc.) was a showcase to see how hard work, genetics and determination can make some people absolutely awesome at the sport of their calling. Granted, that could be a work profession and it doesn’t matter if you are Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, Latino, African, Jewish, Indian, etc… If you are good at what you do all people should look upon your gifts, hard work and self-determination.
Yesterday, MLB suspended what appears to be all Latino players, most notably A-Rod (Alex Rodriguez), with the exception of the Hebrew Hammer – Ryan Braun which happened a couple of weeks ago.
Where was the outcry when Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Curt Schilling and many others notable athletes tried certain supplements that at the time weren’t banned by the league. Today’s environment of money in all sports forces these people to try everything to be the best that they can be. Can anyone fault them? Can anyone blame them?
We used to praise Lance Armstrong and now curse his actions but would any of us done the same as many of his competitors were doing the same thing? The true answer is probably around half of us. Do these actions ruin the games they play, the sports they participate in? Absolutely, and it needs to be cleaned up but this is just an extension of the corruption that has infiltrated not just our society but the entire globe.
Our political system, the global political system (UN, EU, other countries), connected businesses, connected schools/universities and everything where cheating occurs every day and is not just encouraged but is supported and covered up. Why do we hold athletes to another standard why crooked politicians, connected alumni and disgraced POS skate to live another day?
P.S. – I’ll continue to take my children to watch the likes of Carlos Beltran, Yadier Molina, Salvador Perez, Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig, Mike Trout and Andrew McCutchen. God Bless you athletes for bringing joy to the fans everywhere, which governments around the globe try and steal from us all every day.
